Graduation Plan and Course Planning for the next school year
Instructions
To graduate, the BC Ministry of Education requires students to complete 80 total credits in Grade 10, 11 and 12. Each course is four credits, so a total of 20 courses that meet the criteria must be completed. Three Ministry of Education assessments, that are not incorporated into any course and must be scheduled are also required to Graduate.
It is required to enter a course in each field. Indicate after the course name if you have either completed it, if you want to be scheduled into it for the upcoming school year, of if you are including it in your grad plan, but you aren’t going to take it during the upcoming school year.
Completed (This is a course that you already completed with a passing grade, at any school in BC)
Add to schedule (This is your course planning for the upcoming school year, the school year for which you are currently registering. You will be scheduled into these classes- pending counsellor approval)
Grad Plan Later Years (These are courses that you plan to take a year or more from now, but that will NOT be completed during the upcoming school year).
Notes re: Course planning/Schedule for the upcoming school year:
- A grade 10 student should have 8 courses marked as “Add to schedule”
- A grade 11 student should have a minimum 6-7 (Maximum 8) courses marked as “Add to schedule”
- A grade 12 student should have every course that they have not already completed in the grad plan section (Maximum 8) marked as “Add to schedule”
Notes re: Students going into Grade 10-11:
You will update your grad plan once per year, so do not worry if you are not certain about what you want to take during the final years. Pick courses that you think you would like to take, and you can easily change it in the future if needed.
Example: For a typical grade 11 student: Science 10 would be “Completed". Chemistry 11 would be “Add to schedule”. English 12 would be “Grad Plan Later Years”.
Notes re: Fusion Students - Important
- Fusion Students in grades 10, 11 and 12 all take Media Design during their onsite days at AVS so a Fusion student should select Media Design 10, 11 or 12 as an elective if they are going into one of those grades.
- Fusion students in grade 11 and 12 all take Robotics 11 or 12 during their onsite days at AVS so a Fusion student should select Robotics 11 or 12 as an elective if they are going into one of those grades.
A Grade 10 Numeracy Assessment, a Grade 10 Literacy Assessment and Grade 12 Literacy Assessment must be completed to meet graduation requirements. These are NOT part of any course you will be taking and must be scheduled separately with your school on specific dates set by the Ministry. Please indicate if you have already completed these assessments or still require them.
Please add any relevant notes or questions that you may have for our counsellor here. Please make a note if there is any information that you entered that you are not certain is accurate.
